‘We’re gonna tell the underdog story of where he came from,’ Jon Chu says of the Bieb’s YouTube-fueled success.By Jocelyn Vena

Valentine’s Day weekend won’t just be lovers in 2011. Devoted Beliebers are counting down to the moment they can check out Justin Bieber’s 3-D movie. Director Jon Chu promises fans will get an in-depth look at what it’s like to be the VMA-nominated singer.
“Well, we’re working on it right now. We’ve been touring with him, so we’ve been working on it,” Chu (“Step Up 3D”) told MTV News about the project. “The movie comes out in five months, so we’re deep in it. It’s been fun to get to know Justin. He’s a really cool guy and we’re gonna make a really fun movie.”
Those who have yet to be infected with Bieber Fever should take note: This movie is for fans and non-fans alike, according to Chu.
“[It's] a movie for his fans, a movie for people who don’t know him, and we’re gonna tell the underdog story of where he came from,” he explained. “Because it’s a really fascinating story and it has a lot to do with our sort of digital lifestyle now. He was able to do what corporations try to do now when they use YouTube and they don’t even know what to do with it yet. It’s a pretty cool story for our time.”
As for the film’s format, Chu explained that it will be a mixture of concert footage and some documentary-style scenes. “There’s not going to be acted-out scenes and I can’t talk about the rest. It’s not your typical concert film and it’s not going to be a biopic … but it is about his life. I think it’s more of a documentary. We’re going to figure it out as we go,” he said. As for how much of it will be in 3-D, he said, “You’ll have to see it. We’re figuring that out now.”
Chu had more praise for Bieber, telling us the singer has real staying power, as evidenced by artists like Kanye West seeking him out for collaborations.
“He … isn’t a flash in the pan,” Chu said. “He has legitimate talent and I think other artists recognize that.”
What part of Justin’s biography do you most want to see played out in 3-D? Tell us in the comments!

‘There are so many great Britney songs to choose from, how do you pick just one?’ Naya Rivera asks.By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Kara Warner
“Glee” cast in the Lady Gaga-themed episode

The cast of “Glee” are used to mimicking some of the most iconic pop artists of our time, including Lady Gaga and Madonna. And when the show returns for its second season this fall, the castmembers will be gleeking out over another very special pop singer: none other than Britney Spears.
“The reason we’re doing it is because so many of the kids on the show say, ‘We grew up with Britney. We want to do Britney,’ ” show creator Ryan Murphy told MTV News about the upcoming Britney-themed episode.
The “You Drive Me Crazy” singer is already slated for a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the episode, meaning that the spotlight won’t be on Spears herself. Instead, it’s the adoring “Glee” cast’s turn to pay tribute to one of their favorite singers, with rumors floating around that leading lady Lea Michele is set to hone in on Britney’s schoolgirl days with “… Baby One More Time.” And actress Heather Morris told MTV News that she wants to channel her inner “Toxic.” But she’s not the only castmember making requests.
“I think Kurt would sing ‘Circus,’ ” actor Chris Colfer said when asked about the upcoming Spears-centric episode. “Just so he can wear a top hat.”
Amber Riley, who plays the divalicious Mercedes Jones, laughed at Colfer’s suggestion, and it’s certainly hard to blame her. For her own part, Riley sees “Stronger” as a natural fit for Mercedes’ boisterous, self-assured personality. “I like that song,” she assessed with a nod.
Still, there are other “Glee” castmembers — like Naya Rivera, for instance — who aren’t too concerned about which Britney number they end up covering. At the end of the day, there are more than enough memorable songs to go around for everybody.
“There are so many great Britney songs to choose from, how do you pick just one?” Rivera asked. “My fingers are crossed that my favorites will make the list!”
Which Britney songs would you like the “Glee” cast to perform? Tell us in the comments!

James Cameron

The re-release of the biggest movie in history is just one day away! For the fans who haven’t decided whether to make the trek to theaters to see the nine extra minutes James Cameron and crew added to “Avatar,” we have some news about the impending release of the film’s DVD and Blu-ray editions straight from the source.
When MTV News caught up with Cameron recently to discuss the film’s re-release, we asked if fans will ever get to see everything via bonus features, extended cuts, etc.
“There are things you will never see,” Cameron admitted. “But there’s a whole lot of stuff that will definitely satisfy the appetite of even the most hard-core fan in a big box-set DVD that we’re actually preparing right now.”
In addition to preparing the film for the re-release, Cameron said his team is also prepping the special-edition DVD and Blu-ray versions. “It’s all happening at the same time, because the deadline for mass-producing stuff for the Christmas marketplace is pretty much now anyway,” he said. “The re-release that we’re doing now with the nine additional minutes is carefully architected for the theatrical experience. But we have more extended-play versions of the film or an extended version of the film that will be available in the Blu-ray, and there will be a whole bunch of supplemental stuff with about 45 minutes of deleted material.”
Cameron explained that the reason fans won’t ever get all of “Avatar” comes down to money. “We got the budget to finish this nine minutes, and we got the budget to finish the 16-minute longer version [the special extended edition], and then beyond that, it didn’t make sense to finish all the extra CG and digital effects.”
Will you go see the re-release of “Avatar” for the nine extra minutes or wait for the DVD and Blu-ray versions? Let us know in the comments!

Coldplay’s new British stamps
Photo: Royal Mail
On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.’s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.
The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones’ Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin’s IV, David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, The Clash’s London Calling, New Order’s Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream’s Screamadelica, Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell, Blur’s Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Meant to honor “the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people’s lives,” the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album’s iconic imagery.
“Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him,” he said. “That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time.”
Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan “a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today’s issue date.”
“We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps,” the message read. “Very nice they are too.”
