It’ll be somewhat of a girls’ night out at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards in November, with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry tied at five nominations each.
The ladies will go head-to-head in four categories: Best Pop Act, Best Song, Best Female Act and Best Video. Gaga is also up for Best Live Act, while Perry, who hosted the show last year, is up for Best World Stage performance for her fifth nomination.
Eminem follows right behind the ladies with four nominations: Best Song, Best Male Act, Best Hip Hop and Best Video for his Rihanna collaboration “Love the Way You Lie.”
But it wouldn’t be an awards show without Justin Bieber. Bieber, who won the Best New Artist Moonman at the VMAs last week, will compete against Ke$ha, B.o.B, Jason Derülo and Plan B as a Best New Act nominee at the EMAs.
Best Rock nominees include Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, 30 Seconds to Mars, Muse and Ozzy Osbourne. Lady Gaga and Katy Perry will compete against Usher, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna in the Best Pop category.
Justin Bieber is also up for Best Male, along with Eminem, Usher, Enrique Iglesias and awards show rabble-rouser Kanye West. Gaga and Katy Perry once again face off against Miley Cyrus and Rihanna in the Best Female category, this time joined by Shakira.
Best Alternative nominees include Gorillaz, Gossip, Paramore, Vampire Weekend and Arcade Fire. Best Hip Hop nominees are T.I., Eminem, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg.
Usher’s “OMG” will try to fend off Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” for Best Song. 30 Seconds to Mars’ “Kings and Queens,” Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s “Telephone,” Plan B’s “Prayin’,” and Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie” are all competing for Best Video.
Perry and Linkin Park will perform at this year’s show. The host has not yet been announced.
The MTV Europe Music Awards will take place on November 7 in Madrid.

Tony Yayo Almost Collaborated With Nicki Minaj

‘I was trying to do a record with her,’ G-Unit MC tells ‘RapFix Live’ of hearing Minaj early in her career.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Queens MC Tony Yayo may have an eye for spotting hometown talent. Before Nicki Minaj joined the ranks of Young Money and was still making a name for herself on the underground circuit, Yayo heard some of the fledgling femcee’s bars and was impressed enough to jump on a track with her. The G-Unit soldier broke down their near-collaboration during his “RapFix Live” interview Thursday.

“She was out there and she was messing with this guy named Fendi. I was trying to do a record with her, but Fendi was like, ‘For what? Why you wanna do something with her?’ Then I left it alone. This was a long, long time ago when I was seeing her on the ‘Come Up’ DVDs, ’cause that’s how she started,” Yayo explained.
Even if he didn’t get on a record with Minaj, Yayo felt that someone needed to scoop up the promising lyricist to serve as the flagship diva of a hip-hop crew.
“You know what’s crazy? Like, three years ago, I said to [music executive and G-Unit producer] Sha Money [XL] … ‘You need a hot female artist, rapper. I’m telling you, that lane is open,’ ” Yayo recalled.
Even though Sha shot him a look of disbelief, Yayo pressed on. ” ‘I’m telling you, Sha, that female lane, that rapper lane is wide open.’ What she did was capture it at the right time, ’cause nobody’s out. There’s no Lil’ Kim out, there’s no Foxy … she just conquered that lane at the right time with the right people.”
For Minaj’s part, the Young Money queen has seemed open to hooking up with G-Unit in the studio. When MTV News caught up with the “Your Love” spitter over the summer and posed the question of a possible collabo with fellow Queens-bred lyricist 50 Cent, she said the opportunity never came up.
“Our paths never crossed, and it’s weird,” Minaj said on MTV2′s “Sucker Free Countdown.” Although she didn’t mention chopping it up with Yayo, she has made the acquaintance of one of his fellow Unit brethren. “I did meet [Lloyd] Banks, like, once or twice before.”
What do you think a Nicki Minaj/ Tony Yayo song would sound like? Let us know in the comments!

Shia LaBeouf Sees ‘Positives And Negatives’ To ‘Transformers’ Re-Casting

Megan Fox replacement Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a ‘new set of eyes,’ actor says.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

“Strange” is how Megan Fox describes the way she’ll probably be feeling when she hunkers down into her seat to take in Shia LaBeouf and “Transformers 3″ next summer. The 24-year-old actress was ousted from the production in a stunning turn of events in May, only to be replaced by Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

And while Fox told MTV News that she “might be a little jealous when I see somebody kissing my Shia,” LaBeouf acknowledged that there are both upsides and downsides to smooching with another actress while alien robots battle around them.
“I think there’s positives and negatives to her not being [in the movie],” said LaBeouf, who was at the Toronto Film Festival to promote “Wall Street 2.” “It’s awesome that we get the discovery again. I think when everybody’s vetted and everybody’s been through these wars, then that discovery of the first film is nonexistent. It’s kind of beautiful in that we get a new set of eyes, a fresh set of eyes for the audience to vibe with. So you get the discovery again, which is something that wouldn’t happen if Megan came back.”
Yet he still counts Fox as a good friend, and praised her turns in the first two “Transformers” flicks. As for Huntington-Whiteley, who will make her acting debut in the new film, LaBeouf said she’s “doing great,” though there’s little he could do to prepare her for the experience of working with famously fiery director Michael Bay.
“You can only do so much,” he laughed. “Fight or flight. A tap on the back and a ‘Good luck!’ ”
Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers 3.”

30 Seconds To Mars Call Kanye West Collabo An ‘Unexpected Surprise’

Sep 27 2010 Published by under Uncategorized

‘It’s one of the strongest things that he’s done,’ Jared Leto tells MTV News of ‘Hurricane.’By James Montgomery

Last year, when 30 Seconds to Mars were still laboring on This Is War, more than a few eyebrows were raised when Kanye West posted a photo on his blog of him, Jared Leto and the Killers’ Brandon Flowers in the studio, where the trio had apparently just finished recording a “dope-ass song.”
Later, Leto explained to MTV News that the “dope-ass song” was called “Hurricane,” and it featured West singing, minus the Auto-Tune he’d been dabbling with at the time (there was no mention of Flowers’ involvement). It sounded like a promising collaboration, but, sadly, fans never actually got to hear it: When This Is War hit stores, “Hurricane” was on there, but West’s work wasn’t.

Leto explained that the band had to remove Kanye from the track at the last minute, due to some rather restrictive deadlines and a lot of back-and-forth between record labels, but he and his 30STM mates were so impressed with West’s contributions that they pledged that someday, somehow, the song would see the light of day.
And, as it turns out, they kept their promise. On November 2, 30STM will release a deluxe edition of This Is War, featuring a DVD, a pair of live tracks recorded for the BBC (including a version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”) and, at long last, the full, Kanye West-ified version of “Hurricane.” It’s been a long time in the making, but, as Leto told MTV News on Friday (September 24), the song is worth the wait.
“Let’s put it this way: It’s a collision of two worlds, and I think it’s a completely unexpected surprise. He’s not only on the track, but he’s phenomenal on the track. … It’s one of the strongest things that he’s done, in my opinion,” he said. “His singing is incredible on it, and he’s done a lot of really wonderful work, and I think this only adds to his work as a whole. … Working with him was an incredible experience.”
Leto said the new/old version of “Hurricane” (he prefers to call it “an alternative experience”) doesn’t stray all that far from the version that ended up on This Is War — they’re both decidedly bleak ruminations on death and lust and sacrifice — but it does feature West getting darker than he’s ever gotten before.
“It was an interesting time. … I remember, he started here at the house, where we made the record, and then we finished in Hawaii,” Leto said. “It is a song that’s on the darker side of things. It’s the flipside of ‘Kings and Queens’ — which has a through line of optimism and hope, and a really strong spirit to it — this song explores a different territory, and his lyrics do the same.”
Leto added that, if it were up to him and West, the song would’ve ended up on the original version of This Is War, but now that 30STM are gearing up to shoot a video for the track, it does present a rather interesting opportunity — perhaps a cameo by Kanye?
“I think that would be an interesting element to add for sure,” Leto laughed. “We’ll just have to see.”
Are you happy the Kanye/30STM collabo is finally seeing the light of day? Let us know in the comments!
