Vanessa Hudgens knows the power of the movie musical. She starred in two uber-successful “High School Musical” movies and played Mimi in “Rent.” So, if anyone can speak to the undeniable influence of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 movie musical masterpiece, “Moulin Rouge,” it’s her.

“Oh my goodness! It was just a beautiful, very specific look that I feel like everybody could completely submerge themselves into,” she told MTV News about the film before Monday’s upcoming “Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event.” “And it was fun, and it was thrilling, and your heart just went out for these characters. I fell in love with the movie, and I have not stopped watching it since.”

Hudgens’ “Sucker Punch” co-star Jena Malone immediately drew comparisons between “Moulin Rouge” and their equally fantastical flick, thanks to their musical scores. “It’s an interesting segue because Marius [de Vries] also did the music for ‘Moulin Rouge’ and he did the music for ‘Sucker Punch,’ and he does such crazy abstractions,” she said. “I mean, Baz Luhrmann’s incredible.”

MTV News will reunite Luhrmann, and the movie’s stars, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, on Monday at 3 p.m. ET on MTV.com. The director and actors will be joined by co-star John Leguizamo, who played artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and Catherine Martin, who won the Oscar for costume design and art direction. Hosted by MTV News’ Josh Horowitz, the live stream will include special appearances and live interviews while looking back at how the film came to be and how its legacy continues to grow.

Don’t miss “Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event” on Monday at 3 p.m. ET on MTV.com! Get in the conversation by tweeting @MTVNews with the hashtag #AskMoulin.

Miley Cyrus is ready to take her music back on the road. The teen superstar is in the planning process for a full-scale international tour, E! News confirms.

Miley will kick off the tour on April 29 at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, Ecuador. Then she will take the show to Lima, Peru, at Explanada del Monumental, on May 1. The singer/actress, who has already begun a workout regime to prep for the tour, is set to announce more dates soon. There are no immediate plans for her to play shows in the United States.

“Miley has a huge fanbase worldwide,” a source told E! News. “She’s pumped that her schedule has opened up and allowed her to perform for fans abroad.”

For those who might not be able to see her on tour, Cyrus has resumed tweeting. No, the star has not reinstated her account, like Demi Lovato, but instead will send messages from the Twitter account of production team Rock Mafia. Cyrus is attached to a big-screen adaptation of the group’s music video for their track “The Big Bang,” which she starred in with Kevin Zegers.

“This is my new way to connect. When I need to speak out I will tweet from @Rock_Mafia ROCK MAFIA FOREVER. x MC,” she tweeted, including a picture of herself and the group’s Antonina Armato, who added, “Writing with Miley on a Rainy Sunday #Heaven!”

Cyrus has been meeting with lots of music producers recently. Last week she met with “Party in the U.S.A.” producer Dr. Luke. Sources tell MTV News that Miley is interested in writing more for other artists.

Ne-Yo Defends Beyonce ‘Dis’ Statements

‘I’m tired of being nice to dumb people. … Bottom line, Beyonce is my friend,’ ‘Irreplaceable’ songwriter tweets.
By Jocelyn Vena

When a comment from Ne-Yo hit the Internet in which the songwriter said that he wished he could have kept the Beyoncé hit “Irreplaceable” for himself, some took it as a dis to the star.

“One song that I gave away and didn’t want to, but it’s actually a good thing that I did, is Beyonce’s ‘Irreplaceable’. I honestly wrote that song for myself, but that song taught me a very interesting lesson: Many women don’t think that differently. … However, a man singing it comes across a little bit misogynistic, a little bit mean,” Ne-Yo, who wrote the song, said in an interview.

When it was implied on Twitter that Ne-Yo was dissing the Sasha Fierce star with his comments, the singer/songwriter defended himself. “Aiight my dude. Send me the link to where I said ANYTHING disrespectful about Beyonce, PLEASE! Dying to hear this,” he wrote. “Just heard the audio where I supposedly dissed Beyonce. ARE Y’ALL SERIOUS!?! Did y’all even listen to what I said!?!”

Ne-Yo then continued to tweet his anger toward those who misunderstood what he said. “I said I originally wrote the song for me. That’s true, so OF COURSE I didn’t want to give it away originally. IT WAS FOR ME,” he wrote. “Once I realized how the song comes across if sung by a guy, that’s when I decided to give it away. HOW IS THAT DISSING BEYONCE!?! She took the song and made it a smash, NOBODY can deny that …

“You know what? At first I was apologetic about what the hacker said, now that I’ve heard the audio myself, not so much,” he continued. “Y’all should listen a lil’ harder before you start dissin’ people. Makes you look real dumb. I’m tired of being nice to dumb people. … Bottom line, Beyonce is my friend. To HELL with anybody that ain’t SMART enough to understand what I truly meant.”

30 Seconds To Mars Reveal New Single To Be ‘Night Of The Hunter’

Band broke the news about fan-favorite track during our 30STM ‘State of the Union’ live stream.

During our “State of the Union” live stream on Thursday night, 30 Seconds to Mars spoke at length about their past (Jared Leto’s Kurt Cobain fascination), their present (Friday’s headlining slot at the Bamboozle Festival) and, of course, their future.

And when it came time to discuss that last point, they took the opportunity to break a bit of news: They’d chosen “Night of the Hunter” as the next single off This Is War. And yes, they’re very happy about it. Because, ever since they released their album in late 2009, they’ve been battling to get the song heard.

“We never thought this would happen, but we think it’s going to be our next single in the States. There’s always a song that fans latch onto, that the real music-lovers and the listeners [latch onto],” 30STM frontman Jared Leto told MTV News. “And this is the one, early on … when we asked, ‘What do you think should be a single?’ [fans] always mention this, but people didn’t quite think that this was the one at the time — some of the people at the record company or at radio stations — but they’ve warmed up to it, and now it’s really fun to have a song that’s eclectic and different to be a single.”

In short, it’s the kind of song a band has to earn the right to release. And 30STM have certainly done that. So now, their favorite track — Leto said it “encapsulates everything about 30 Seconds to Mars that we are interested in, musically” — is set to be released to radio … with an appropriately epic video, of course.

“I would love to make a video for ‘Night of the Hunter,’ because I think it’s one of the most cinematic songs on the record; when we play it live onstage, it always evokes imagery to me,” Leto said. “The song really grew from … my brother and I were born in Louisiana, we had a single mom … who, at the time, was a high school dropout living in the South, [so we] really didn’t have very much in terms of materialistic things. And although we moved out of the South when we were kids — you know, we joke we kind of climbed out of the muddy banks of the Mississippi River with food stamps in one hand and our instruments in the other — our mother helped carve a new life for us. And I think that song has some spirit of the South in it; some kind of American Gothic feel.”

Are you glad to hear there will be a video for “Night of the Hunter”? Tell us in the comments!

Eminem And Royce Da 5’9″ To Drop Bad Meets Evil EP

Shady Records will release project in June.

Bad and Evil will once again team up, as rap stars Eminem and Royce da 5’9″ announced Monday (April 25) that they will be dropping an EP this June on Em’s Shady Records division of Interscope.

The duo, who record under the alias Bad Meets Evil, first traded bars on Eminem’s 1999 major-label debut, The Slim Shady LP, and then went on to release an independent single (with “Nuttin’ to Do,” “Scary Movies” and “I’m the King”) on Game Records later that year. A subsequent feud between Em and Royce halted any collaborations between the two, but the duo has since made peace and began recording together. In January, it was announced that Eminem signed Royce’s group, Slaughterhouse, to Shady, but before that project hits, fans will be treated to an as-yet-untitled Bad Meets Evil EP.

“Royce and I started hanging out again and inevitably that led us back into the studio,” Eminem said in an Interscope press release. “At first, we were just seeing where it went without any real goal in mind, but the songs started to come together crazy, so here we are.”

Royce added: “I’m excited to see this project come to fruition considering the long lapse in time between when we worked before and now. We had a blast doing it and we just hope everyone enjoys it while we’re working on the Monster that will be the Slaughterhouse album.”

While the name of the Bad Meets Evil EP will be revealed at a later date, it has been confirmed that beatmakers D12′s Mr. Porter, Mobb Deep’s Havoc, DJ Khalil and Bangladesh will be producing on the project.

Are you excited for the new Bad Meets Evil project? Tell us below!
