Katy Perry Talks Tequila And VMAs During Pre-Show
‘I had an omelet and shot of tequila,’ nine-time nominee Perry tells MTV News before Sunday’s big show.

Katy Perry openly fretted just hours before the Video Music Awards Sunday night (August 28) that she couldn’t decide between all her many dress options — “#vmagirlproblems!!!” she tweeted, but in the end she picked out a stunner.
She sauntered onto the black carpet inside the JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday dressed in an anime-inspired kimono-esque dress, an umbrella over her pinkish hair and husband Russell Brand by her side.
“He is a gentleman,” she told MTV News of Brand. “Chivalry isn’t dead.”
Hey, she deserved the attention. Perry is not only the most-nominated artist of the evening, with nods including Video of the Year, Best Female Video and Best Pop Video, but the only artist in VMA history to be nominated for four different videos.
“It just means that all my hard work has been recognized by the people of MTV and the fans that are voting, which is really, really important to me,” she said. “Otherwise, I’m here to have a good time. I already had a shot of tequila at 12. I had an omelet and shot of tequila.”
Things were already going her way by the time she’d headed onto the carpet. Perry won one professional award for Special Effects based on her “E.T,” beating Kanye West’s “Power,” Linkin Park’s “Waiting for the End” and Chromeo’s “Don’t Turn the Lights On.”
Before she made her way into the Nokia Theatre for the VMAs, Perry took time thank her fans for their support. “Thank you so much for everyone who voted,” she said.

Lily Collins Is Our New Class’ ‘Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door’
With ‘Mortal Instruments’ and ‘Snow White’ still to come, the badass-yet-relatable actress is destined for mega-fame.

We called it way back in January: Lily Collins was an actress to watch in 2011.
At that point, her career was just heating up following a turn as Sandra Bullock’s daughter in “The Blind Side.” An impressive series of castings in high-profile films followed: “Priest,” “Abduction” opposite Taylor Lautner and an adaptation of the best-selling YA series “The Mortal Instruments.” A few months later, she landed the role of Snow White in Relativity Media’s Julia Roberts-starring take on the fairy tale.
Collins is making good on our predictions, which is why we’ve selected her as part of our New Class — a collection of young talent about to rise to the top of Hollywood, including her “Mortal Instruments” co-star Jamie Campbell Bower. With her badass-yet-relatable roles, Collins is our New Class’ “Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door.”
Though she’s had all of 2011 to get used to the spotlight, the whole celebrity thing continues to feel odd.
“It feels very surreal,” she told us at the “Abduction” red carpet. “It’s weird getting out of a car and people are saying my name. It’s still a weird concept to me.”
Give her time. Collins told us she’d like to model her career after Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet or Meryl Streep. “I like that none of them have stuck themselves in a box,” she said. “They’ve done all sorts of roles — comedic, dramatic, they’ve gone from indies to big motion pictures. I love their choices.”
And she’s a fan of the New Class itself, which includes not only Bower, but Emma Watson, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev.
“It’s an honor to be placed in the New Class of actors,” Collins said. “I’m doing what I love, and I’m having the best time.”

As if the Twitter back-and-forth weren’t enough to get fans excited for their Christmas-themed collaboration, MTV News now has photo evidence of Justin Bieber and Boyz II Men singer Shawn Stockman in the studio together.
In the photo, both guys are seen looking casual in baseball caps and T-shirts. They shared a high-five in the studio, which was even decorated with Christmas lights.
The guys had a bit of a Twittermance post-session that had the veteran Boyz reminding the teen phenom to never forget the wisdom they shared with him. And whatever that advice was, it certainly made an impression on Bieber. “I’m not gonna forget. THANK U!!” he tweeted.
Bieber has a busy fall ahead of him. As he readies the release of his Christmas album, he’s also getting ready to hit the road in South America and Mexico. “Back in the studio putting the finishing touches on this Christmas album and getting the tour stuff together,” he tweeted.
The tour will kick off later this month in Mexico and will make its way around South America, including stops in Brazil and Argentina. He’ll wrap up the stint at the end of October. He’s pretty much off the road until December and January, when he has two stops planned in Illinois.
“Seeing all the love for the S AMERICAN fans … tour is less than a month away. Who got tickets in BRAZIL? in Argentina? in Mexico? in Chile?” he tweeted.
